Fast and Easy Cabbage Soup

Use grocery store short cuts to make this soup faster, pre-packaged produce, frozen foods, grocery store salad bar finds.

1 medium onion, roughly chopped
(or 4 oz from salad bar, red onions are often offered in salad bars and add a nice flavor)
2 stalks celery roughly chopped
(or 4 oz celery slices fromt the salad bar
1 T dried parsley flakes
1 T poultry seasoning
1 T powdered chicken or beef boullion
1 bag cole slaw mix (OK if it has carrots in it)
8 oz. pack sliced mushrooms
(in produce department or salad bar)
1 lb. bag frozen California mix vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli and carrots)defrosted and roughly chopped
1 lb. frozen cut green beans or 1 lb. bag frozen yellow squash or zucchini
48 oz. can V-8 juice (can use low-sodium)
Additional water as needed
Salt & pepper to taste

Put the items in a 6 qt. crock pot in the order listed. Add water as needed to cover all the ingredients. Don't stir right away. Place crock pot on high for 2 hours, stir and re-set to low. Cook until cabbage is softened.

I make this after dinner, cook 2 hours, stir it down and set to low and leave it cook overnight. Then it's all ready to take a container for lunch, and refrigerate the rest for the rest of the week.

Try this with bok choy instead of cabbage, and add soy sauce instead of boullion.

The claim is this is a fat-burner, but a cup 20 minutes before every meal helps you to feel full sooner, and eat less at your meal. Pay attention to what your body tells you, put the fork down when your body says it's full, and you'll lose weight!

Curried cabbage soup

I created this from the origional cabbage soup recipe. I'm not keen on vegatables so tried different ways of changing the taste-and this is beautiful!

Three green chilli peppers
1 half large cabbage
3 carrots
2 tbsp garlic powder
3 tbsp Madrass powder
2 tins plum tomatoes
6 medium white onions
250g fresh mushrooms
half carton of V8 vegetable juice
2 pints of water

Slice onions, put in a pot and start to saute with cooking spray.

Green-pepper: Cut it into bite size pieces

Remove the outer leafs layers of the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces.

Clean carrots, cut into bite size pieces.

Slice mushrooms into thick slices.

Add green pepper, cabbage carrots and mushrooms to pot.

Add the Madrass powder and Garlic powder now. (The measurements are to my taste, add the amount you prefer).

Now add the water and the V8 juice and put on a low heat. Let soup cook for a long time, until the mixture has reduced - one hour works well.

Once cooked, add ingredients to blender and blend.

Season to taste with salt and pepper.

my soup recipe.......

i made onion stock without salt......
then i chopped beans......cabbage.....carrots......and capsicums......and presure cooked them together..... then i seasoned with a little salt and pepper.....

Is my soup recipe right???????

I was confused as i read that people on this diet have a lot of gas problems......and i didnt have this problem at all.....

I'm on my 2nd day.......and i doubt whether i have lost weight......i'm following it strictly without any cheats.......i ate fresh fruits and soup yesterday......nothing else.....

plz reply asap.thankz.

no beans are allowed in the Cabbage soup (they contain too much protein ans starch)!!!
The rest of the soup ingredients is fine although I would recommend to simmer the soup in a pot for 10 - 15 minutes instead of pressure cook the ingredients. But if you prefer pressure cook - then it's ok too.

Keep going ... Cook your soup for the remaining days WITHOUT beans and your 7 day cabbage soup diet will be a success.

Adding Spices to the Cabbage Soup

What are the effects of adding spices to the soup, in order to make it taste less bland. I was thinking of cayenne pepper and tabasco? Will it have an adverse effect on weight loss?

adding spices to the cabbage soup makes the soup more palatable. Cayenne pepper and tabasco in limited quantities are a great addition to the soup. Especially tabasco however may contain a high sodium content - that again retains water in your body. Our recommendation: use not more than 1 teaspoon tabasco per day.
