You don't need them when you stick to the old classic plan but we warmly recommend to add protein - in which form ever - to the cabbage soup diet plan.
The old plan is great for radically cleansing your body. With the lack of protein you may risk however loosing muscle mass instead of fat.
That's why we endorse the newer plans with the added protein. If you don't like the shakes then try the improved cabbage soup diet also known as miracle soup diet. Instead of protein shakes you are allowed to add skimmed milk and low fat yoghurt. Check it out!

Yes you can. You might want to check our miracle soup diet plan with added dairy. We don't recommend doing the csd without protein.

Can you eat eggs on the protein days?
Hi Tami, Eggs are a great substitute for vegetarians on the meat days instead of meat. Otherwise the only allowed protein is - depending on the 7 day cabbage soup diet plan - either low fat milk or 2 protein shakes per day.

Can i have cottage chesee instead of a protein shake ?
Hi Xiomara, I've never tried cottage cheese instead of a protein shake. If you want to try it, I recommend to use low fat cottage cheese. Please give us a feedback and let us know how the cabbage soup diet worked for you with cottage cheese.

Egg whites instead of protein powder?

I'm having a hard time finding a good brand of PLAIN protein powder that doesn't have any carbs or sugar.. so I'm wondering if I could use egg whites in the shakes instead of protein powder? (the taste and salmonella scares me though - what else could I do to get all the protein i need?)
Hi Janice, we don't recommend egg whites for the salmonella reasons mentioned.
We do recommend however Soy Protein. It is a good vegetable source of complete protein in high quality which is very low in fat. We have made good experiences with "Now Soy Protein". It contains 90% Soy Protein Isolate but no sugar, salt, yeast, starch, corn, wheat, gluten, milk or preservatives. Find here more informations on soy protein and where you can buy "Now Soy Protein" online.

acai juice instead of protein shake on the cabbage soup diet
I actually didn't hear about adding protein to the Cabbage Soup plan (I guess I'm referencing older sites) but could I add acai juice instead of a protein shake, since apparently acai juice is high in protein and anti-oxidants.
Hi, Acai juice is said to have between 10 and 30 times more antioxidants than pomegranates, grapes and even blueberries. The fact that it contains extensive vitamins, minerals, amino acids, Omega acids, and other properties, explains why the acai is one of the most nutritionally dense berries. Although full 7.59% of the Acai berry is protein - this is not enough to replace the so important protein shake for the cabbage soup diet.
You may have however some acai juice on the "fruit days" like day 1 and day 3.
