Hi, I have a few questions...

Can I alter the soup - I hate celery, can I leave it out of the soup? I also prefer my veges crunchy so I don't want to cook it for 2 hours. Can I use fresh tomato added last instead of tin tomato's?

Can drinks such as unsweetened tea, cranberry juice and water can be drank every day of the diet or just the first? I assume sparkling water and lemon juice and ginger in my water is ok too?

Can I have gravy on Day 2 & 3 & 7?

Day 5 is tomato day, does that mean I shouldn't be eating them on Day 1 or Day 2 & 3? I assumed as there is tomato in the soup it was okay?

Is vinegar ok on salad and veges?

When I am allowed beef on Day 5 can I BBQ and / or stir fry it with veges?

On day 6 as much beef is allowed or you can substitute it for chicken or fish. Can we eat beef, chicken AND fish? And I'm assuming any cooking style with minimum fat is okay?

Hi Judy,
of course you can leave out celery. The best cooking advice is to let the cabbage soup boil and then simmer only ten minutes! And yes, you may add fresh tomatoes only at last.

All your proposed drinking suggestions are ok - including lemon juice and ginger in your water!

Gravy is too fat and not allowed on the cabbage soup diet week!

I don't see any problems if you eat tomatoes on all of your "vegetable days" - in soup or raw!

You may have 1 tablespoon vinegar per day.

The best addition to your meat on day 5 are tomatoes. It shouldn't be a problem however if you
BBQ and /or stir fry your beef with other veges.

On day 6 you can substitute beef for chicken or fish. And yes, you can eat beef, chicken AND fish? You are right herewith too:
Any cooking style with minimum fat is okay!

I'm not sure if I understood your question. But on the cabbage soup diet you eat your cabbage soup based on vegetables as often as possbile per day. On top you eat the special food according to the cabbage soup diet plan. Day one is fruits, day two is vegetables ...

3 x NO! Can fruits have a much too high sugar content even those without added sugar aren't suitable for the cabbage soup diet.

Cabbage Soup Diet modifications question

Hi,

I just completed day one of the diet. It was great. I love cabbage so the soup was really yummy and I love fruit, so that was fine too! I'm so glad I found this website because I have a couple questions:

1. I see that a teaspoon of olive oil is allowed as a cheat, but I was wondering if instead it's OK to take my fish oil supplement. I take one daily and didn't know if it was OK on
this diet.

2. I have a dairy allergy so I was wondering if on the milk and
banana day I could substitute the skim with one of my dairy
free alternatives. I typically drink unsweetened almond milk. It
only has 40 calories per 8 oz and 1 g carb. Do you think this
is an OK replacement?

your questions are very welcome.

1. raw cabbage with a lemon-olive oil dressing is great on all "vegetable days" like day 2, 3, 6, 7. Please limit your salt intake and use the best olive oil quality you can get. Note: You may have 1 tablespoon olive oil per diet day.

2. fruits with a high glycemic index like water melons, papayas, pineapples are allowed but shouldn't be eaten in very large quantities.

3. avocados are too fat for the cabbage soup diet week.

On day 5 and day 6: prepare your chicken, meat or fish the "lean" way like grilling, baking, frying (with a bit of oil) or in a wok.

Can you really eat unlimited amounts of fruit and veggies with the soup? I'm scared about that because I can literally eat alot of fruit. Just so I'm clear no matter how much fruit I eat, it's ok just as long as I have at LEAST 3 bowls of soup?

in your special case I would limit fruits and vegetables with a high glycemic index (GI) and higher glycemic load (GL) such as melons, pineapples, pawpaws, carrots and pumpkins.
These kind of fruits and vegetables shouldn't be eaten in large quantities as they could influence your insuline level in a negative way. For fruits and vegetables with a low GI and low GL there is no limit. Enjoy!

A couple of cabbage soup diet questions

My boyfriend and I are trying to follow this diet, but we have a few problems. He is allergic to raw fruit and vegetables except: romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, strawberries and blueberries. He has started day 1 eating only strawberries and blueberies and the soup (because it's cooked it's ok)
1) But what about day 4- he can't eat bananas? He can eat dried bananas would that work? What should he eat instead?? He can drink the milk.
2) what about day 5- is there something he can eat besides the tomatoes?
3) It said to aviod corn and peas on day 3. What about on Day 5 and 6 and 7?

I regret it to say, but I think this is not the type of diet I would recommend to your boyfried.
Why? The big advantage of the cabbage soup diet is that you break the "cabbage soup monotony" with a whole bunch of fruits and vegetables allowed on certain days.

This helps you not only stay motivated but the 7 day cabbage soup diet gives you also a first impression how important fruits and vegetables are for detoxifying your body. This important insight and lesson builds the first step switching to a healthy lifestyle.

In the case of your boyfriend - it is almost impossible to stay on a motivating track with this diet - as almost all fruit and vegetable options are "forbidden". For him it would be much better to choose another more suitable weight loss plan.

I will however try to answer some of your questions in general:
1) bananas can be substituted by pawpas/papayas.
2) on day 5 you may have instead tomatoes also (cooked/steamed) vegetables.
3)Corn and Peas are a big NO! for all of your cabbage soup diet days.

ok two things first i have just come off the lemon detox diest and in one day i gained 5 kgs. i am freakn out!!! i havent weighed this much in ever seriously! i want to do this diet and am wondering if i just have cabbage soup as is so noooo additives just boiled cabbage and water u know make a soup will i loose weight?

Don't eat only cabbage soup! This is dangerous for your body.

Of course you will loose weight when you eat only cabbage soup (it is low calorie/low fat/low carb) - but you will regain more pounds than you've lost after you start to eat your "normal nutrition" again.

The better option is to have cabbage soup as a starter before your regular meals. This will give you a satieted feeling, you will eat less of your
meal and on top loose weight in the long run.

No you don't have to start over. But with the dried figs it may be, that hunger cravings will occur. Please keep the cabbage soup at hand and eat more than you've maybe planned to resist uncontrollable sugar cravings.

Can this diet cause water retention ? I am drinking lots of water as advised, however I have noticed my ankles are swelling up a bit. May not be connected just checking!!

usually people experience the opposite!
Please check your sodium intake with the soup, in addition make sure that your mineral water has not a too high sodium content.

The not allowed artificial sweetners: This is mainly because of the hunger pains. If it is no problem for you to control them, you will of course still see an impressive weight loss even with drinks including artificial sweeteners.

You should also know that the cabbage soup diet offers your body a great opportunity for detoxifying. This facts could also be dilluted by artificial sweeteners.

Hi! My daughter and I are just finishing our third day of the cabbage soup diet. Day five is supposed to be beef and tomatoes. The problem is that my daughter doesn't not like tomatoes, unless it is a sauce, or ketchup...even the soup is ok. Is there a replacement for tomatoes on day 5?

Not hungry for anything else...

I'm on the evening of day 2, and I've had 3 big bowls of the soup today (which i made with lots of the suggested veggies) so I haven't been hungry enough to eat the extra veggies allowed for today, and was thinking I'd skip the potato tonight as well. Is this okay or will it negatively effect the diet?

this is great, the more cabbage soup the better...

The potato is meant to keep your insuline level balanced out - this avoids strong hunger feelings.
If you didn't eat it on day 2, you may of course skip it or take it on the evening of day 3, if you feel you need it.

Eating a balanced diet combined with the cabbage soup is an excellent idea. It's of course not as rigid and quick as the cabbage soup diet week but it leads also to weight loss and it is much easier.
Eat the soup preferably before your meals for a better filling effect. Not only will you eat less from your balanced lunch or dinner but you will also profit from the detoxifying and fat burning power of cabbage.
For digesting cabbage, the body uses the energy from your fat cells...

One strategy could be to cook a pot of cabbage soup on Friday evening and try to combine it with your balanced diet on Saturday and Sunday. This helps you to lose at least 2-3 pounds a weekend. And if necessary you might repeat this procedure the next weekend again.

My Body shape is Pear shaped, just wanted to know with this Cabbage soup diet will I lose my fat around my hips, butt and thighs ?

This is my 2nd day, I consumed almost 1 + 1 liter of cabbage soup for 2 days. My water consumption is only 2-3 glass of water :(

Hi,
what you can influence with the cabbage soup diet is that the "real fat zones" are attacked instead of the so important muscle mass. This goal you achieve through adding protein shakes to your diet week.

Your basic body shape like "pear shaped", "apple shaped"...can't be changed in general. What you can do, is choose the right fat burning exercises
for hips, butt and thighs and by this help those zones get better trained and tighter.

On top I warmly recommend the "fat burner shoes"
called "mbt shoes" which influence your problem zones in a very positive way. They force the muscels in your legs and body work harder.

Your cabbage soup consumption is very good and above the average! 1/2 Liter per day is the minimum. You eat double as much per day. Wonderful! But please increase you water intake a bit, that is very important!

usually on the days before the period a woman gains some weight (water retention),
but after the period is over this additional weight is lost. If you don't have any problems with your period then it is now the perfect time for your cabbage soup diet. Some will experience a great weight loss soon after some days others only the day after the 7 day cabbage soup diet. This is not predictable and very individual. I wish you a successful diet week,

Is this really worth it? Is it just a detox? Is it more than just a Detox plan? Basically, I'm only on day 2 - and wondering if it is really worth sticking to it for 5 more days... or should I eat some cheese and drink some colon cleanse later? And also...after reading some other questions -
Are we supposed to be eating this soup in addition to meals? I thought it was just the soup and then you could also have fruit or veggi or meat (depending on the day) if you needed it. I had 3 or 4 bowls, an apple, and a plum on day 1. Is that right?

Hi Lisa,

tropical fruits like kiwis, mango, papayas are great for the cabbage soup diet week. The same is true for strawberries.

Please pay attention with pinneapples. They have a high glycemic index and should be consumed only in limited quantities to avoid hunger cravings afterwards. When eating pinneapples it would be advisable to eat cabbage soup afterwards to balance out a possible insuline spike.

Really need energy

I am in my second day on the diet and have only eaten soup and vegetables all day. I don't eat a lot anyway and started the day with a sandwich bag of vegetables and for lunch, a bowl of soup but by 4:00pm I was so hungary I ate a can of Tuna. It was a 3 oz tuna in water calories are 80 no sugars or carbs. How bad is that when I am only in my second day? Can I still eat a baked potatoe tonight for dinner?

day 2 of the cabbage soup diet is really the hardest - therefore I understand you very well! A can of tuna in water was the better choice than a can of tuna in oil;-)

If you still need the potatoes for dinner then you may have them too.

Nevertheless stick strictly to the diet plan from now on and you should see a considerable weight loss. By the way, nibbling carrots is a great way against hunger feelings.

Can you smoke while on cabbage soup diet?

is this a joke? We've had this question never before...


Anyway - it depends on the "grass" you are smoking ;-)


I assume you mean cigarettes...from cigarette smokers we know, that smoking reduces the appetite. When a regular smoker would stop smoking while on cabbage soup diet, it would be much harder for him to stick to this diet because of the withdrawel syndroms and additional cravings for food.



That doesn't mean of course that someone overweight should start smoking now only to keep the appetit reduced ;-)



Back to your question - no, cigarette smoking on day 5 or any other day won't effect your weight loss effect.

If you do the 7 day diet and by then totally sick of the cabbage soup after waiting a week could you do this diet without using the Cabbage soup at all? For example still fruits Day 1, veggies Day 2, etc. just no soup or does that defeat the purpose and would that be completely ineffective?

Dear Gary,
don't worry - the impressive weight loss effects with the cabbage soup diet will remain the same if you smoke or not, but there is another aspect you should take into account.
The emphasis with this diet lies on detoxification. With smoking you do the opposite. When you are a smoker it will be hard to stop smoking while on diet. But maybe you could reduce it in the cabbage soup diet week.

Few cabbage soup diet questions

Thanks for sharing useful tips. I feel good on this diet. First morning was a total disaster. I could have eaten my colleagues...after that, I am OK.

I love fruit, but I always get hungry after having a single piece...
This is my third day, fruits and vegetables, and I am doing quite well. No cheating at all for these three days. But the scale says I am weighing more than at the beginning. So, I have few questions:

1. Am I allowed to eat as much soup as I want (addicted to soups, generally)

2. Could I have it for breakfast?

3. Is it allowed to have a hot soup around midnight, before bed?

4. When not given in the plan (like 6 tomatoes, up to 8 bananas (am I right)) how much am I allowed to eat (meat, fish, rice)

5. Should I have 5 meals or I could take some fruits or vegetables in the meantime, as a snack?

thank you for your great questions.
here are the answers:

1) Yes, you can eat as much cabbage soup as you want, but pay attention that i is not too high in sodium.

2) Yes, you can have soup for breakfast, you might want to change texture, e.g. mix it with a blender.

3) Yes, you can have soup even around midnight. After the cabbage soup diet week however I recommend to stop eating 2 hours before bedtime at the latest.

4) You can eat 300-600 g lean meat (e.g. 2-3 steaks) or fish on day 5 or 6.

5) You could even have some fruits and veggies in between on your fruit and vegetable days.

no, I can't recommend doing the cabbage soup diet at your young age. You might still be growing. Please wait till you've totally grown up.

What I can recommend to do instead is to use the cabbage soup as a starter before your regular meals. This will held you feel satiated sooner and you don't need as much for your regular meal.
