cabbage soup diet not allowed for children?

Why is the cabbage soup diet not recommended for kids?

Hi Tahje,
Children should not go on a cabbage soup diet. Diets that restrict entire food groups like e.g. bread, noodles... are not appropriate for children. Such a diet limits fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, and other important nutrients that kids need to support development and growth.

a diet for my child

I think my child needs a weekly diet sort of like the cabbage soup diet because he is obese

Hi Tahje,
please don't do this. You child may risk severe health problems when going on a cabbage soup diet or another fad diet which lacks in important nutrients. On top this might be the first dangerous step to a eating disorder like anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.

Parents - and especiall you as mother - play a big role in shaping your kid's eating habits. When you consume a variety of foods that are low in sugar & fat and high in fiber, your child will learn to like these foods as well.

For a severe obese child an option could also be a carefully selected weight loss camp.

More information you'll find in our child obesity treatment section.

All the best,
Gabriela
