2% Milk

by Kellie Gillard
(North Bay)

Can I have 2% milk instead of skimmed milk?

Hi Kellie,

Yes you can! The advanced cabbage soup diet allows skimmed milk or low fat yoghurt in specific quantities. When low fat yoghurts are ok then low fat milk (max. 2 %) will work too!

Here are some diary facts: Products labeled as "skim milk" usually contain less than 0.5% fat. Semi-skimmed or low fat milk has a fat percentage ranging between 1 and 2 percent. Whole milk has a fat content of around 3.5% and should be avoided while on the cabbage soup diet.

All the best,

Gabriela

Please anything but milk...

by Adalaine
(United States)

I have no trouble with the rest of the days, but can stand no form of milk including the substitutes you have suggested (yogurt, soy milk). I am on the fourth day. What can I do?

Will it affect the situation very much if I only eat bananas and skip the milk altogether?

Would it be better to try a flavored milk or soy milk with no fat?

Thank you greatly,

AA.

Dear Adalaine,

only banans and soup won't be enough for day 4.

If you can't drink soy milk maybe a proteinshake based on water could be a good choice for you. Many shakes can be mixed with water instead of milk. By doing this you would get the necessary protein without drinking milk.

All the best,
Gabriela

Lactose Intolerance

by Mariela
(Framingham, MA)

I'm lactose intolerant so I can't drink milk, can I use fat free or low fat soymilk instead?

This is a medical question which requires a specialist's answer. We are no doctors here and can't take responsibily. Please ask your doctor.

We may give you however some facts about lactose intolerance in general:

The inability to digest significant amounts of lactose, the major sugar found in milk, is called lactose intolerance.

A concern for people with lactose intolerance is getting sufficient calcium in a diet that includes no or little dairy products.

Soymilk could be a great substitution to milk. It can provide the calcium and other nutrients your body needs.

The label of the soymilk gives yout the information regarding the calcium content of the soy beverage. You might also make sure that the soymilk is fortified with impotant vitamin A, B-12, D, and riboflavin that are usually found in cow's milk.

If you compare the Calcium and Lactose Ingrediens of the two, the soymilk contains almost the same calcium amount as the cow milk:

1 cup Soymilk, fortified, contains 200-300 mg Calcium
and no Lactose.
1 cup fat reduced cow milk contains
approx. 295 mg Calcium but 11 g Lactose!

I do not take milk at all. What now? (by Bonolo - South Africa)

Check if you could substitute cow milk with soymilk. If this doesn't work for you, we recommend to choose another quick start diet, e.g. the the negative calorie diet.

milk substitute for cabbage soup diet

by PK
(California)

I don't drink milk... I've never liked it, and it doesn't like me much (lactose intolerance). So, on the milk and banana day, I made baked custard with skim milk. (Baked custard recipe is 2 cups milk, 2 eggs, 1/4c sugar and 1/2 tsp vanilla.)
Is this a bad cheat or a good cheat?

Hi PK,
there are much safer cheats...
Sugar is not an ingredient for the cabbage soup diet at all, it can cause strong hunger feelings.
Eggs are only a meat substitute and not approriate for the banana diet day.

Your Lactose Intolerance is a medical question -I'm not allowed to give you here any advice - please ask your doctor.
Generally spoken you might substitute the milk with soy milk.

All the best,
Gabriela

Can i have fat free powdered creamer in coffee during diet?

by Stephanie
(Atlanta, GA)

Can i have fat free powdered creamer in coffee during diet?

Dear Stephanie,
if the ingredients of the powdered creamer are artificial I would not recommend it. The better approach is to use low fat milk in your coffee - the advanced cabbage soup diet plans allow low fat dairy anyway to replenish your body protein. So some milk in coffee is no problem.

But please don't exaggerate.

All the best,
Gabriela
