How much Cabbage Soup?

by Sam
(France)

Im 19 years old and am on the first day of the cabbage soup diet. I made my first pot in the morning (12 cups of water). Realistically, how long should this pot last me? 3 days? the whole week?

And is it true that the more soup I eat and more liquid (water, tea) I consume, the more weight I will lose?

Thank you,
x

Dear Sam,

this first cabbage soup pot should last 2 days maximum. It is advisable to eat half of the pot the first day and the second half the next day - for best results. By this (together with a sufficient water intake) you maximize the purifying and detoxifying effect of cabbage and on top the cabbage soup helps with satiation enormously. This fact prevents you from possible hunger cravings.

Gabriela

How much cabbage soup?

I am on day three right now, and I felt great getting out of bed this morning, Usually i feel all achy and stiff similar to the feeling you have the next day when you work out for the first....but anyway last night I had a right size smoothie.. My husband had bought it a while back but only made one shake and quit! : )

I dont really plan on using again, I just wanted something different last night.. BUT I am not hungry, and I still like the soup very much... Oh also I wanted to know how much soup should you eat?

When I get to work in the mornings I put my soup in a large coffee mug and eat it that way at my desk ..I have 2 cups and then at lunch one cup ...and then when I get home 1 to 2 cups....Should I be eating more?

Hi,
the more cabbage soup, the better!
Your large coffee mug with cabbage soup at work is a fantastic idea!
Regarding cabbage soup quantity: One large pot of cabbage soup should last 2 days maximum.
So yes, maybe you could increase your consumption - add 1-2 cups of cabbage soup before bed time;-)

Gabriela

quantity of a bowl of cabbage soup

by Chass
(Starkville, MS)

Hello,

This is day two of my cabbage soup diet and it tastes great!! However, reading the board i was unaware i was suppose to eat 3 or 4 bowls a day. I only had two yesterday. Will this throw me off? I will start eating 4 bowls today, but how much is considered to be a bowl? can you please tell me how many cups of the soup makes one full bowl? And also, is it okay to get my baked potato from Wendy's?

Thanks

Dear Chass,
experience shows that a higher consumption of cabbage soup gives better weight loss results in return. Just keep that in mind for your remaining days. You didn't screw up anything...

One large pot (2-3 litres of cabbage soup) should last 2 days maximum. That means you should eat 1/2 pot per day - 1-1.5 litre soup minimum.
When you divide this quantity through 4 portions it equals bowls with a quantity of around 300 ml.
And 300 ml are maybe two coffee cups?!
So with 6 large coffee cups of cabbage soup
per day you are safe;-)

The recommended cabbage soup quantity is higher than most people would expect it. But this ensures a perfect detoxification and
prevents hunger attacks through the day.

All the best,
Gabriela

What if you drink (soup) more than your usual calorie intake per day

by Marie
(Ontario, Canada)

If your daily calorie intake is about 1800/a day and you drink your cabbage soup and the additional "allowed food" up to that amount, doesn't it void the whole diet concept? Therefore wouldn't it be false to say that we can "drink as much soup as we want". OR "the more you drink the more you lose"?

Hi Marie - thank you for this great question!

There are several aspects to consider: A calorie is not a calorie. Once a calorie enters your body, it's easier to turn food fat into body fat than it is to turn carbohydrate into body fat.

Nutritionists rattle off the 4-7-9 rule: A gram of carbohydrate or protein has 4 calories - a gram of alcohol contains 7 - and a gram of fat has even 9 calories.

But there is more. Jean-Pierre Flatt (University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester) explains that you pay higher energy costs for handling and storage of carbohydrates: 3 % to store fat as fat, 7 % to store carbohydrate as carbohydrate (in a form called glycogen), and 23 % to convert carbohydrate to fat.
What does this mean for the cabbage soup diet? For the cabbage soup (high in carbohydrates, low in fat and protein) your body needs more energy to digest it than it gets from the cabbage soup itself. That’s why often the expression "the more soup you drink the more pounds you lose" can be read in that context. And of course the healthy and purifying cleansing effect of the cabbage soup should also be taken into account.

It’s not only hard to convert carbohydrates into fat, your body seems even reluctant to do this.

Flatt, Jequier, fed young healthy people 700 grams of carbohydrate - that makes 2,800 calories. The result was a glycogen (carbohydrate) storage. He had then to give an enormous amount of carbohydrate to really see a net increase in fat storage.

Many researchers for weight loss now agree that if any diet is going to help take and keep weight off, it has to be low in fat.

Another aspect is that eating the cabbage soup at the beginning of a meal signals the brain to cut off appetit. But to achieve your calorie limit of 1800 calories per day you’ll have to consume at least 12 portions/12 cups/3 liters of cabbage soup = 1200 calories and e.g. at least 12 portions/12 cups/3 kg of vegetables = 600 calories. Try it and you’ll see, it is not very easy to consume such a high food quantity.

All the best,
Gabriela

What is the serving size for the soup?

by Renee
(Poplar Bluff, MO)

I bought a Woman's World magazine and it had the cabbage soup diet in it. The only thing it says for lunch and dinner is a salad and 1 serving of soup. How much is considered 1 serving? Any help with this is much appreciated. Thank you !

Hello Rene,
from our experience - the more cabbage soup the better. One soup serving is in general one cup/8 ounces or 240 ml of soup.

I don't know how long the cabbage soup recipe lasts

by Natalia
(New York, USA)

Is the cabbage soup recipe for one day or I have to make this recipe last for the seven days period?
The ingredients are for one-day period or for seven days?

I am very confused.
Thank you

Hi Natalia,
the typical cabbage soup recipe ingeredients are meant for a large pot containing several batches of cabbage soup. Ideally this pot of cabbage soup should be eaten within 2 days. Successful cabbage soup dieters eat 3-4 cups of cabbage soup per day...

Gabriela

Wow! I never knew that. Gabriela, the diet calls for eating the soup every day doesn't it. I make a big pot of soup and have at least two bowls per day. This time I had so much left over broth of the soup, I drank it the next week.

This diet has too many variations.

What if I ran out of cabbage soup?

by Wendy

So it's 12:18AM and I don't have any soup ready for tomorrow. I have to work all day and I won't be getting home until after 7PM. I'm gonna be on Day 4. Will I be okay on milk and bananas until 10PM and then eat a bowl of soup at night?

Hi Wendy,
no! You will need the cabbage soup earlier!
At least 2-3 potions on day 4!

Maybe you could prepare it this evening after 7pm.
Use a "quick cabbage soup recipe" and after let the soup come to a boil let it simmer only for 10 minutes. If you don't have any cabbage make yourself at least a vegetable soup based on the vegetables you have e.g. onions, tomatoes, peppers...

All the best,
Gabriela

Progress/Two Pots

Hey All --

My wife and I are on the Cabbage Soup Diet. We've made it to day four. At the beginning of the week, we made TWO pots of soup. We put the V8 in one and not in the other--that way, the soups taste very different and we haven't gotten sick of them yet!

We're using the Cabbage Soup Diet to kick off twelve months of trying all of the major diets out there. Check out our blog: http://twelvemonthfad.wordpress.com/
