You don't need them when you stick to the old classic plan but we warmly recommend to add protein - in which form ever - to the cabbage soup diet plan.
The old plan is great for radically cleansing your body. With the lack of protein you may risk however loosing muscle mass instead of fat.
That's why we endorse the newer plans with the added protein. If you don't like the shakes then try the improved cabbage soup diet also known as miracle soup diet. Instead of protein shakes you are allowed to add skimmed milk and low fat yoghurt. Check it out!
