Dressings, Dips, Condiments, etc.

by Kylie

I have been looking around and can't really find any answer to my question.
What is allowed as far as dressings (salad, mainly), dips and condiments?
I read somewhere mustard is okay? in moderation because of sodium. is that correct?

As far as a crunchy salty snack.... is a pickle okay to have? Obviously not the whole jar, lol but maybe one or two on veggie days?

Thank you so much!

Dear Kylie,

congratulations to your weight loss so far:)

You may have up to 1 tablespoon olive oil and up to 1 tablespoon vinegar per day.

This is together with low sodium seasoning and herbs a great base for a salad dressing. If you don't need all the oil you may use part of it to saute vegetables or even to enhance your cabbage soup.

1-2 small pickles as allowed cheat on the vegetable days are a great motivator and shouldn't harm your weight loss.

Another allowed cheat is 1 teaspoon of mustard per vegetable day.

All the best,

Gabriela

ketchup and mustard

by ana
(guatemala)

Hi, I have been eating the soup's cabbage and other veggies with a bit of ketchup and dijon to make them taste better, is this OK? Also, am I allowed to eat only the veggies or is the broth more important?

Hi Ana,

we don't recommend ketchup because of the high sugar content. Mustard should't be used more than one teaspoon per day. But better you omit it because of its high salt content which may retain water in your body. For allowed cheats on the cabbage soup diet week check this thread: cabbage soup diet cheats

Veggies and the broth are both important. If you prefer you may also puree the veggies to get a more creamy soup.

All the best,
Gabriela

vinegar & olive oil

by Marija
(Slovakia)

First of all, thank you for this wonderful web site-it's been very helpful.
I've decided to go for the oldest(and the hardest)version of the cabbage soup diet, this is my fourth day and I'm doing well so far. I have a few questions:
1)How many tablespoons of vinegar a day can I use to season vegetables on days 5, 6 and 7?
2)How many tablespoons of olive oil a day can I use to grill meat and fish on days 5 and 6?
3)Can I season meat with some mustard and fish with some lemon juice?
Thanks!

Hi Marija,
thank you for your compliment concerning my website. Your questions are appreciated and very welcome:
1.) max. 1 tbsp vinegar per day
2.) max. 1 tbsp olive oil per day
3.) 1 teaspoon mustard + some lermon juice per day is fine.

All the best,
Gabriela

Oil on your vegetables

by sarah
(limerick)

Hi, I am on Day 2 and was wondering if sunflower oil, salt and pepper is allowed on some turnip and then to roast it in the oven?
Thanks

Hi Sarah,
sorry for the late reply!
As allowed cheat you may have 1 tablespoon olive oil per day. If you want you can drop part of it in your cabbage soup or use it for your veggies or even use it as base for a salad dressing.
All the best,
Gabriela

Tabasco on cabbage soup diets

I am on day three of the cabbage soup diet and just now realized that I have been putting way more tabasco in my bowl of soup than I was supposed to. Have I ruined my diet?

Tabasco is a hot sauce consisting of mashed, aged hot red peppers (tabasco peppers), combined with salt and vinegar.
Although it is said that Tabasco Sauce and Cayenne pepper can increase metabolism and fat-burning ability by up to 25%, you should watch your salt intake.

For best results don't use more than 1 tablespoon tabasco sauce per cabbage soup diet day - not per soup bowl! Otherwise the high salt content my cause your body to retain water. That again leads to more weight instead of less.

If you stick to this rule for the remaining 4 cabbage soup diet days I'm sure you will still see an impressive weight loss.

All the best,
Gabriela

Hot Sauce?

by TS

Can we put calorie free hot sauce in each serving of cabbage soup?

It depends on the ingredients, ususally such sauces are high in sodium that can retain water in your body. Some calorie free hot sauces contain even artificial ingredients. Use the most healthy you can get and sprinkle only some drops over your serving. The better option for "hot" taste is to use some pepper or chili.

cayenne peppers on cabbage soup diet

Can I substitute cayenne for the green peppers green peppers make me quite ill
also can i omit the mushrooms without reducing effectiveness

Hi,
yes you may have cayenne peppers in the cabbage soup instead, they will make your soup hot & spicy!

You won't reduce effectiveness of the cabbage soup when you omit mushrooms, choose instead vegetables you prefer.

All the best,
Gabriela
