condiments on cabbage soup diet

by Arthur L Cavanagh
(Fort Myers Beach Florida)

Are condiments allowed on the cabbage soup diet? Such as olives pickles pickled beets and peppers. I stay away from sugar and I noticed that some of these products do have sugar added.

Just a note about artificial sweeteners. They can be a cause of Migraines. Please be aware if you do suffer Migraines. God bless and thank you.

Hi Arthur,
the cabbage soup diet works better without condiments and you are right, most of them contain (artificial) sugar and/or sodium.

But for motivational reasons you may have some in limited quantities - max. 1 tablespoon per day on the vegetable days.

olives and pickles

hello,
I am wondering if it is ok to have olives or pickles on the cabbage soup diet?

Hi,
I don't recommend olives, they are too high in fat. Pickles have usually added salt and sugar, that's why they are also not appropriate for the cabbage soup diet.

All the best,
Gabriela

Soy Sauce

(colombia)

Can I use soy sauce for veggies and to marinate the beef on the beef day?
How about mustard to marinate?

Yes you may use soy sauce for your veggies or to marinate the beef, but in very limited quantities - 1 teaspoon per day. Soy sauce usually has a high salt content. The same is true fo mustard. Salt again retains water in your body and the purifying effect of the cabbage soup diet might be in danger.

We therefore recommend to use not more than either 1 teaspoon mustard or 1 teaspoon soy sauce per day.

Vinegar and Soy sauce

by beenish
(u.s.a)

I put vinegar and soy sauce in my soup....is that ok???

Hi Beenish,

allowed is one tablespoon vinegar and one teaspoon soy sauce per day. You can use vinegar for a salad sauce, put soy sauce over your vegetables and of course also put both in your cabbage soup if you prefer that. But please don't consume more than the recommended quantities per day.

All the best,
Gabriela

Salad Dressing with my vegetables on Day 6 ????

May I have salad dressing?

For one day: Mix one teaspoon olive oil with some vinegar or lemon juice. Add some sodium-reduced seasoning and herbs and you'll have a wonderful dressing.
