Calculating Body Fat Percentage


Why Body Fat Percentage and BMI calculations are key factors!

Calculating Body Fat Percentage before you start the diet is extremely important and helpful - in particular with the cabbage soup diet. I will explain this in a minute.

Another more general tool is to check your BMI. The result shows you, if you are really overweight.

BMI Calculation

English Formula:
Body Mass Index can be calculated using pounds and inches with this equation:

Weight in Pounds/((Height in inches)x(Height in inches)) x 703

For example, a person who weighs 220 pounds and is 6 feet 3 inches tall has a BMI of 27.5.

220/((75 inchesx75 inches))x 703= 27,5

Metric Formula:
Body Mass Index can also be calculated using kilograms and metres (or centimeters).

Weight in kilograms/((Height in metres)x(Height in metres))

For example, a person who weighs 99.79 Kilograms and is 1.905 Meters tall has a BMI of 27.5.

99.79 Kg/((1.905 m) x (1.905 m))= 27.5.

What does this all mean?
BMI Scores

< 19: NO diet please!

19-25: ideal weight, low health risk

> 25: light overweight, with the successful diet cabbage soup you will lose some pounds

> 31: significant overweight, you should always consult a medical practitioner on diet

Is your BMI higher than 35? Then maybe the successful cabbage soup diet can't help. Check here if the bariatric surgery concept could be something for you.

Competitive Athletes and Body Builders:
High BMI Exceptions



Exceptions to a high BMI score include competitive athletes and body builders whose score is high due to increased muscle mass, or women who are pregnant or lactating.

The BMI is not intended for use in assessing growing children or frail or sedentary elderly individuals.


Why Calculating Body Fat Percentage?


Have you ever heard of calculating Body Fat Percentage? Excess body fat, associated with high blood pressure, heart desease and diabetes, is not always visible and cannot be measured on a ordinary scale.

On the other hand somebody with an high BMI may have high muscel mass and a very low fat mass. If you think this is you then please stop! You really should not go on diet!
