Important: If you want to play it safe and clean, omit the onion soup mix and replace it with low sodium vegetable broth.
Below you'll find cabbage soup diet recipe variations. For those who want more variety to the basic soup - especially when cooking the soup from time to time over the year. Add all ingredients to the soup as it cooks. You can also use smaller amounts of each to flavour one bowl of soup.
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1-2 tsp whole caraway seeds
3 springs fresh thyme, crushed, or
2 tsp dried thyme
3 cloves garlic, crushed
3/4 cup chopped Italian parsley (flat leaf)
4 fresh oregano leaves, crushed,
or 1 teaspoon dried oregano
3 cucumbers, peeled and slices
2 tsp ground tumeric
2 tsp ground cumin
some saffron, if at hand
"Buena Vista" Style
2 japaleno peppers, finely chopped
4 tsp chilli powder
1-2 tsp ginger
1 tsp hot sauce
"South Western" Style
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp curry powder
mixed into the cooking soup
for garnish on top when serving:
chopped fresh mint leaves
shrimp or fish boullion
1 tbsp soy sauce
some fresh bean sprouts
for an exotic oriental sensation
this time without the tomatoes!
"Chanterelle" Style chanterelle mushrooms
a pinch of thyme and rosemary
without the tomatoes for a great French taste.
I add one teaspoon of non fat grinded hard cheese on top of every soup variation just before consumption!
