Cabbage Patch Kids -
a unique gift!

Back in the 80’s, one of the biggest crazes of the time was the Cabbage Patch Kids. Stores couldn’t stock enough of them, and shops were sold out as soon as they were replenished.

What’s this got to do with my diet tips? Nothing, apart from the cabbage link. But I loved how cute they were, and I was over the moon when they came back to life again last year, that's why I wanted to share them with you.

The Legend of Cabbage Patch Kids

Xavier Roberts was a young child who found a magic waterfall. Besides this waterfall, there grew a magical cabbage patch, which was being covered in magic dust by Bunnybees. Then, from nowhere, lots of little babies appeared, looking out from under the cabbage. All of them were unique, and had its own little history – name, birthday, even its own character.

Because of where he found these little babies, Xavier decided to call them cabbage patch kids, and was so enamoured by them he decided to build a hospital just for them, called Babyland. Here, the Cabbage Patch Kids could live in peace and safety, until someone came along and adopted them to take to their new home.

Cabbage Patch Dolls History

The Cabbage Patch Kids became so popular that this kind of adoption hospital idea transferred to the "real world". Prospective parents could go to Roberts’ hospital in Cleveland, Georgia, adopt a baby and actually receive adoption papers for their new "child". Along with five friends, Roberts also started a production company for the dolls called Original Appalachian Artworks. So taken was toy company Caleco with the idea behind the Cabbage Patch Kids that a deal was signed, and mass production started in 1983.

Beloved 1980s Dolls To Be Re-Born This Summer

Despite the huge popularity the Cabbage Patch Kids enjoyed in the mid-80’s, people moved onto a new fad, and the company that manufactured them, Caleco, went bust. Trying to keep interest, it was up to Hasbro and Mattel (who were famous for their Star Wars merchandise) to try and keep the mass market interested. Yet they were never to enjoy such interest as they initially had. Until now…

Dolls For A New Generation

Now a new generation of children can experience what all the fuss was about, thanks to 4Kids Entertainment and Play Along Toys. These two companies have brought out a new range of Cabbage Patch Kids, and the great news is that parents who remember the originals will love them too.

Truer To The Original Look And Feel

What’s different with these new Cabbage Patch Kids is that they’re just like their famous ancestors, complete with adoption certificate, unlike other versions that were released in the interim. So if you remember them from the first time around, do yourself and your own kids a favour, and take them along to your nearest toy store today.
