Pawpaw

Pawpaw

I can not eat bananas. Just the smell of them make me sick. What can I eat in the place of bananas?

For the the banana day 4 of the cabbage soup diet you should consume at least 3 bananas . Bananas are high in carbohydrates and calories. You will need the carbs and potassium today.

Pawpaw (Papaya) also known as Indiana banana, might be a good substitute for banana, if it is available in your area. You should enjoy Pawpaw fruit fesh. (by the way, it is is often substituted for bananas when baking banana bread.) If not available in your area, you could also try kiwis. From nutritional value Kiwi and papaya outrank bananas as the top low-sodium, high-potassium fruits. These two are also the fruits that provide the most nutrition. Very low in fat, one papaya has just half the calories of a large banana.

allergic to bananas and latex fruit

(Greenwich, CT)

Tomorrow will be day 4 for me on the cabbage soup diet. I am allergic to bananas and other latex fruit.

Is there anything I can substitute, another fruit with potassium or even a supplement for day 4?

Thank you

Greenwich, CT

Hi!
Sorry I couldn't answer earlier...and I'm not allowed to give you here any medical advice.

Generally spoken, pawpaws are a great supplement for the bananas. I don't know however the "latex" content of them...

Banana Day Substitute

by Alia

Is it OK to substitute the bananas by other fruits on day 4? They are too high in calories, give me gas when I eat them and very sweet(which make my taste buds go crazy asking for more sugar)! I really dread that day of the diet! I am currently on my day 2 and I can't wait to get an answer on this. Thank you soooo much for your time ;-)

Hi Alia,
try it wih pawpaws instead - read the following thread for more informations banana substitute.

Day 4- Any other fruit you could eat besides banana's?

by Michele

Today I already made my banana and milk shake twice, I realized that I was supposed to peel the banana's before I froze them..oops..

Is there any other fruit we could eat in addition to banana's?

Thank you! :)

Hi Michele,
no other fruits are allowed on day 4 beside bananas. People who don't tolerate bananas may try it with pawpaw instead. In your case however stick to the bananas.
Good luck!

Banana Day is so rough...

by Victoria
(Tempe, AZ)

I have been on this diet twice and the first time I lost around 8 lbs. I am now on the second round 8 months later and dread the banana day.

Today is the bananas and it tears me up and make me sick. Do I have to eat the bananas or can i eat the soup and milk and limit the bananas to maybe one? I love this diet except for day 4...

Dear Victoria,
instead of bananas you could have also kiwis, papayas or apricots.

All the best,
Gabriela

Can we have sweet potato in place of bananas on day 4?

Hi,
I was wondering if we could eat sweet potatoes in place of bananas on day 4? They have very close levels of calories, fat, fiber, starch, potassium and sugars. The banana actually has less fiber, more sugar, and less potassium, so it seems like it should be ok to eat sweet potatoes. Will that mess up my diet? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
for banana substitute pawpaws (papayas)
do a great job - they call them also "Indian bananas". I regret but we don't have any experience with sweet potatoes regarding day 4.

All the best,
Gabriela

skip banana day

by Jen
(Pickering, ON Canada)

Can I just skip the banana and milk day entirely and eat soup and veggies instead or repeat day 3 with veggies and fruit. I dont see how this would be any worse, in fact only better since bananas are high in calories. Not a big fan of bananas or milk.
Also - wondering why you cannot eat veggies on day one and four along with soup considering veggies are in the soup anyway (providing to stick to the same veggies that are in the soup or similar).

Hi Jen,

your questions are very understandable.
The special order of the cabbage soup diet days makes sense, regarding the desire for "sweets" in your body. If you skip days or make your own plan, keep in mind, that this will make it harder to stick to the whole diet week. There are days when your insuline level is low and the desire for sweets is very high. This fact is balanced out e.g. with the banana diet day.
Of course you will have an impressive weight loss too if you repeat day 3 with veggies and fruit instead.
But the lack in carbohydrates will make it harder sticking to the whole diet week.

Regarding day one: Of course you may have all your vegetables in your soup. But to make it easier to adapt your body to this diet it is recommended to eat plenty of fruit on this day.
Again, additional vegetables won't harm you regarding weight loss but it won't help you neither if you have a desire for sweets. Fruits however can balance out a low insuline level.

All the best,
Gabriela

not using day 4

by Cj

I am on my day four but i don't want to eat the bananas and the skim milk because it is pure carbs, is it okay if i just skip this day and go straight to day 5?

Hi CJ,
I understand your arguments!
The bananas high in carbohydrates are necessary especially on day 4 to prevent you from any cravings for sweets. That would put you on a high risk breaking the cabbage soup diet week. Watch yourself very closely. If you can be sure that you can manage this without bananas (cravings for sweets is not an issue for you) then you may also skip this day.

But this is seldom that's why I generally won't recommend skipping day 4.

All the best,
Gabriela
