a bunch of cabbage soup diet questions

by Julz

Hi, sorry I've a bunch of questions.
I'm on my day 5 just a few questions:

1) I hate milk, could I subtitute milk to rice/soya milk instead?

2)Another thing - I threw a tiny bit of garlic in my cabbage soup is that ok?

3) What is the best type of cabbage to cook?

thanks heaps Julz

Dear Julz,
your questions are welcome:

1) yes you may have soy milk instead of regular milk.

2) garlic is a healthy addition to your cabbage soup and gives it a delicious taste!

3) the best cabbage for the cabbage soup diet is
"white cabbage".

All the best,
Gabriela

Two quick questions
by: Christine

Love this page!

1. Today my husband and I are starting day two. What should we be eating for breakfast each day?

2. On day four there is a dinner we have to go to at a restaurant that my parents planned. It is an Italian restaurant... We know no dessert but what do you suggest we could eat without ruining the diet?

Thanks!

coconut oil

by Bianca
(Naples)

A dietician advised me to take 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil everyday for a month and I would lose weight. I just started the cabbage soup diet today, should I stop taking the coconut oil since it's high in fat? Will this affect my results?

My recommendation: Never mix two different diet concepts. Do either the cabbage soup diet or the virgin coconut concept.

For the cabbage soup diet I know the advantages -for the coconut oil however, the only thing I could say, is that it is high in fat, I've never heard about that kind of diet.

Is it ok to put crackers in your soup

by Brit
(Canada)

I find it tastes better with the crackers, is this ok to add. Also can I use french dressing for salads. Is soya sauce ok with brown rice?

Hi Brit,
Crackers are not an allowed cheat on the cabbage soup diet! Check instead if you can improve your cabbage soup recipe with special herbs you prefer.

What I can suggest as base for a salad dressing is (quantity per day!):
Mix 1 tablespoon vinegar with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add some low sodium seasoning and small onion cubes. This makes for a delicious salad dressing.

Please use not more than 1 teaspoon soy sauce on rice day.

All the best,
Gabriela

eating the cabbage soup on its own?

by Helia
(england)

Hi, i want to know if you must eat all the vegetables and fruite in this diet, or will you still lose weight buy eating the soup on its own?

Dear Helia,
there exist two approaches:

1) jumpstart your weight loss with the 7 day cabbage soup diet. In that case we highly recommend to stick to your preferred cabbage soup diet plan.

2) use the cabbage soup as a starter before your regular meals. With that startegy you eat less calories and fat altogether because the satiation effect of the cabbage soup. Usually I recommend this strategy after the 7 day cabbage soup diet to maintain or even increase your weight loss.

Please don't eat only cabbage soup as this will harm your health!

why no fruits?

by Jen
(MA)

I'm on day 6. So far I've lost 4 lbs! I'm vegetarian and I just couldn't eat tofu or soup for breakfast today so I had a lowfat greek yogurt with strawberries and banana!

Why are their no fruits for so many days? I was really craving all that lovely fruit that I just couldn't finish by day three! At least I'm not craving chocolate like usual.
thanks

Dear Jen,
the specific food order including the allowed fruits on only certain days has to do with the aim balancing out your insuline level and reduce possible cravings for unhealthy food.

orange juice cheat

by Lisa

i had two glasses of orange juice today cause im obsessed with juice. Will this set me back heaps?

Hi Lisa,

If you are on one of your fruit days and you used orange juice made of fresh oranges this shouldn't be a problem. On days when fruits are not allowed orange juice could provoke high hunger attacks - in that case eat more cabbage soup for best results...

Necessity to eat all the cabbage soup diets stuff?

by natalie du toit
(city)

HI there,

Is is absolutely necessary to eat all the cabbage sopup diet stuff? Can i just go on the soup diet JUST eating the soup (as much as i want)??? Or must i include the other foods mentioned for each day?

Hi Natalie,
for best results within a week please stick to one of the 7 day cabbage soup diet plans.
Another option would be to have cabbage soup as a starter before your regular meals. With this strategy you can also shed some pounds in the long run.

But if you need an impressive weight loss effect within a week, then you should eat the daily "stuff" too, besides of the cabbage soup. It keeps your insuline level balanced out - thus helps you to avoid hunger attacks. Those hunger attacks would occur if you would eat the cabbage soup only!

I was even more careful, becuse I really wanted it to work. Is that typical

why bananas are prohibited on the first day?

Why is it that bananas are prohibited on the first day of the cabbage soup diet but not the 4th day? I got started on the diet but didn't realize that bananas were prohibited on the first day. So I ate like 3. Does this mean I have to start my day 1 over?

Hi,
bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates. That's why they are not suitable for boosting your metabolism and detoxifying your body in the first days. They are allowed however on the fourth day because your body needs then the carbohydrates, calcium and protein (through milk)

In your case we recommend for best motivating results to stop the diet, wait some days and start with day 1 again (without bananas...)

All the best!

Honey on cabbage soup diet

by chantelle
(dubai)

Can I have honey while im on the soup diet or dried fruits?

Dear Chantelle,
no Honey is allowed while on cabbage soup diet.
The same is true for dried fruits.

Honey and dried fruits will both increase your hunger pains while on cabbage soup diet. This would make it hard to finish the 7 day diet week.

Edamame

by Amanda
(Boca Raton, Florida)

On my vegetable day can I eat Edamame lightly salted?
No! Edamame is similar to beans, pulses and pies a legume and not allowed for the cabbage soup diet week.

Edamame is pre-eminent for its high (20%) oil content as well as its high (40%) protein content. It makes a great and healthy snack after your cabbage soup diet week!

Some background information:
The green vegetable is known as a immature soybean. The soybean is a legume, which is also classed as an oilseed.
Immature soybeans with the Japanese name "Edamame" are usually boiled whole in their green pod and served with salt.
Soybeans which are prepared this way are becoming more and more popular in the US. Edamame has been praised as an great snack alternative in healthy living and fitness magazines, because of the health benefits of soy.

Parsnips

Is it okay to have Parsnips on the vegetable days?

Yes you may have parsnips, in Germany we call them "Pastinaken" on the vegetable days.

For those of you who don't know parsnips:
Parsnip is related to the carrot, also a root vegetable. They resemble carrots, but have a stronger flavor and are paler.

Parsnips can be roasted or boiled or used in soups, stews and casseroles.

healthy diet approach with compromises

by JS Mann
(Bay Area, CA, USA)

With nonfat Pavel's yogurt and lots of high quality cinnamon--Pavels. It is very close to milk and has curds in a very thin somewhat sour base. If I drink the skim milk, I will get the runs and feel sick, lactose intolerance.

I also for the tomatoes and beef day, intend to make Gazpacho, minus the olive oil and bread--Tomatoes, green pepper, onion, garlic, a bit of salt, lemon, papper, good vinegar, I like to put a very small amount of cumin. blended up. That is the only way I can imagine eating a few tomatoes...(aren't they a fruit?)

I cannot somehow deal directly with high acid fruits. In fact I am not buying any citrus fruit, kiwis or pineapples, as I am somewhat sensitive and know that I will be ultra sensitive during this diet, which already feels a bit acidy to me. I know it is wierd but bananas are pretty alkaline or super sweet, so I am worried about that.

After reading all the comments however- I am going to follow through.
I love to be alone, lately anti social and for me to stick to this diet, I need to isolate myself, so this is a great excuse to be a loner but not 'worry' about my lack of motivaton for social connections - since a glass of wine is mandatory for a fun social evening as well as chips or bread!

Ok it is only my second day of the diet, I find I did not have an appetite until noon - drank double strong black coffee without my beloved milk (yes it is a compromize but I have to have it just like my mom did)
Anyway I am too lazy to cook - so I have had 3 bowls of the soup so far (ps. I hate the tomato flavor, so I rinsed it out, added new veggies and put some veggie broth-) i did do something cooking like.

I finally made Kale chips in my convection oven- what a yummy way to eat kale!
I am also concerned about eating the meat..terrible cook- and 20 ounces---doubt it..I will use it as a exploration of my new micro/convection oven.
Well a lot of things are def a compromise in terms of my taste buds...but since I do not really organize what I eat during the week, and get chubby even if I only eat one meal- I am willing to do this with purpose and calmness-
Ok look at all my anxiety about the diet! but I intend to follow through and watch a lot of Crime drama shows!!

Dear JS,
thank you for telling us your approach.
The most things sound "healthy" to me and with your strategy the diet week shouldn't be a problem:

Pavel's low fat yoghurt seems to be a wonderful protein source.

Your "Gazpacho light" is a viable option and also a great tip for our readers.

For alkaline food I recommend apricots, peaches, apples and grapes to you!

Banana smoothies are a superb variation on the day 4! Enjoy it!

I'm happy to read that you loved the Kale chips, it is a wonderful snack while on the cabbage soup diet week.

Regarding meat you don't have to eat the maximum quantity but consume more veggies instead. You might even want to substitute it with tofu if you like.

I wish you a successful diet week! Whenever you have any questions, please come here back again.

All the best

Continuing a Diet after the 7 Day Cabbage Soup Diet

by Kate
(Mauritius (Curepipe))

I am thinking about continuing with the Cabbage Soup combined with Protein (mostly fish and legumes), Veggies and Fruits after completing the 7-Day Diet.

Is that possible? I have 25 kgs to lose and am diabetic. I talked to my Doctor about the Diet. He is Ok with it.

Answer:
I'm glad that you asked your doctor. Here is my opinion.
You might repeat the cabbage soup diet with 6-8 weeks waiting in between. I can't recommend continuing this strict program longer than 7 days, I regret.

Instead I highly recommend to join me with my FREE 52 weeks of clean eating habits challenge! it will help you slowly, step by step switching to healthier eating habits.
See you there!
